>Canon chip resetters All recent Canon printers with individual ink tanks use ink level chips. Each ink tank has a small IC chip attached to it. It's there to identify the ink tank to the printer and store it's ink level data. The chip is continuously rewritten as the ink gets used up. This information is displayed on-screen as the Canon ink monitor (ink gauge). When ink level in any black or colour ink tank gets close to empty, Canon printers are programmed stop printing and present ' Ink has run out ' (or similar) error. Ok.it's good to know how much ink you have left and nice of the printer to stop - before it runs out of ink. And if you are buying a new Canon cartridge/tank every time the ink runs out, the chips don't affect you very much.

If the cartridge chip says that ink tank is empty, you are not printing anything - until the 'offending' empty tank is replaced. Even if a cartridge is topped up well before empty, it makes no difference to the ink monitor. The actual ink level is not relevant! All ink information is provided by the chip(s). So.what can you do about Canon ink chips? This can be a confusing subject, due to the different options for various printer models.

1 - Disable the ink monitor This is the cheapest option that works with most Canon (chipped) printers.
