Nothing I tried fixed the problem and I also found other 'glitches' with Windows, similar ones, unable to connect to Outlook or 'unable to find an email program'. So the problem was not with ZoomBrowser, but with Windows. MS Support might like to know that I am pretty sure the corruption occurred in the upgrade from Windows 8.0 to Windows 8.1.

It worked OK with Windows 8.0 originally but did not work after the upgrade to 8.1. Then I had to completely re-install windows 8.1 form scratch to solve the problem. Regards Teresa.
